The Haematococcus lacustris NIES-144 genome sequence and gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from GenBank on July 09, 2021. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by GenBank and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.

Haematococcus lacustris

Haematococcus lacustris is a fresh-water unicellular alga that occurs primarily in fresh-water pools. It has both motile and non-motile forms. In the non-motile form when the growing conditions are unfavorable, the cell increases in size and enters a resting phase that is characterized by a thickened cell wall and red protoplast because of accumulation of astaxanthin.
