The KOG Browser

EuKaryotic Orthologous Groups (KOG) is a eukaryote-specific version of the Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG) tool for identifying ortholog and paralog proteins. Where a KOG tool is provided for a JGI-sequenced organism, it provides a way to find JGI-predicted genes by KOG classification or ID.

KOG provides four functional groups, each of which is divided into KOG classifications identified by letters of the alphabet. Within each classification, groups of orthologous or paralogous proteins ("KOGs") are assigned a KOG ID.

With the KOG tool, you can:

browse through classifications and KOGs.

begin an advanced search on a KOG ID or description.

view a list of JGI-predicted genes related to a KOG or classification.

Select Model Set(s)

With the KOG browser you can analyze single or multiple gene model sets by selecting one or more from the menu (see below).

To search an individual gene model set in KOG, click to select an item in the Select Model Set(s) to View menu and click the apply button. The page will refresh to display your selection.

Or, to search multiple gene model sets, hold down Ctrl key (on the PC) or Cmd key (on the Mac) and click the model sets you wish to view (see below), then click the apply button. The page will refresh to display your selection.
