Epibryaceae sp. MNA-CCFEE 6094

Epibryaceae sp. has been isolated from granite colonized by endolithic communities in Continental Antarctica (Random Hills, 1700 m a.s.l. -74,103056, 164,38138; Selbmann et al. 2020). A formal description is pending.

This new taxon is a member of the Epibryaceae family from the order Chaetothyriales (Ascomycota) and was sequenced as part of the Shed light in The daRk lineagES of the Fungal Tree Of Life (STRES) project. The STRES aims to fill in gaps in the Fungal Tree of Life by sequencing at least 96 reference genomes from the group of Black fungi. This project additionally aims to: i) gain insights into the evolutionary processes allowing Black fungi to successfully adapt to extremes; ii) clarify their role in the functioning ecosystems.
